New Beginning for Cara Vaughn Photography
After much thought and prayer, I have decided to take "Cara Vaughn Photography" in a new direction. A little background for some of you who may not know....
Background- I have always loved taking pictures; whether it was with a disposable camera or a digital camera. When Brad and I did some traveling that love of taking pictures went to a whole other level. I am so thankful that we have been able to see parts of the world that are almost untouched by humans. I started taking pictures of landscapes and different scenes we came across. Of course over the past two years, what I have been taking pictures of has shifted since we have not been able to travel due to the little ones. I have been blessed to get to take maternity, newborn, and family pictures. For a while I really thought I wanted to kind of start a photography business in addition to teaching. I started taking pictures of friends and family to "practice" the art of taking pictures (lighting, shadows, etc.) and important the task of editing pictures.
I learned that I could literally spend hours taking pictures and editing them. It is the most fun thing to do! For those of you who have let me "practice" on your or your family; thank you! Now to the new beginning part....
Brad and I recently watched a Nooma video from Rob Bell titled "prayer" (regardless of what you think about Rob Bell, I have to say that he gets people talking). One of the points he makes in the video is that God's creation is not complete. Each of us is called to create and add to His creation. Whether that is creating through art, or by creating another life, God calls each of us to add to His work. I could not get this idea of creation out of my head. I started thinking about what I add to this world (without stating the obvious- Nora and Cohen). I am an 8th grade science teacher and (most days) love my job! I truly feel called to teaching and LOVE the relationships and conversations I get to have with students. For this reason, I do not feel that photography could and should ever be a full time job for me. However, I do love taking pictures and feel that maybe this is my way to add to creativity of this world (my own form of art if you will).
The more I thought about it, I realized that maybe photography shouldn't be a "side business" for me to make money. Maybe photography is supposed to be my way of creating art and sharing it with others. So here is what I am thinking....
I want to take and edit pictures for free for whomever wants them! I started thinking about how people love to have their family and friends (along with those special milestones) photographed, and how many people cannot afford to do this. And of course there are people who can afford photos taken, but maybe just never get around to doing those family pictures (or holiday pictures). I want to be the one to freeze the moments for people, edit them, and give them something to hang on their wall, free of charge. I truly feel that God has given me this desire for a reason, and it can be a way for me to give back to others.
In addition to adding family, maternity, and newborn pictures....I am going to put up some photos that Brad and I have taken on our travels. If one catches your eye and you could like it, please feel free to let me know. I would love to share any and all that we have.
I am hoping that this new adventure will bring much creativity to many and most importantly will be pleasing to God! Please help me spread the word about Cara Vaughn Photography.....maybe its you, someone you know, a family you know....anyone (email me at clsanders21@gmail.com)!
More info to come......
